Training needs

Ropes are an essential component of a traction lift. The EN Code requires that such ropes fulfil certain criteria. One of the main standards involves the evaluation (calculation) of the rope safety-factor (Sf). To calculate it, the code demands to consider certain parameters. These parameters vary depending on the design and layout of the lift, as well as on the grooves of the driving sheave used.

For its part, the lifetime of the ropes depends on the calculated rope safety-factor (Sf). The idea behind this calculation of the safety-factor, is to ensure that the ropes will endure the gap between two consecutive rope inspections, which is generally one year. In the end, the code ensures that the ropes will endure a minimum number of transports, regardless of the design, layout, or the type of traction pulley grooves. This way, the customer can be certain that, once installed, the ropes will last for a minimum period of time.

Electrical Engineer with about 32 years of experience in the elevator industry, having worked in Installation and Maintenance Operations, Sales, Procurement and Technical Training. MBA from Webster University. Doctorate in Political Science from Vienna University with a Dissertation on EU Research and Technology Development Policy. 

Participants

Personnel with a good basic knowledge of the functioning of a lift and at least an undergraduate level of mathematical knowledge.

Duration

8 videoconferences of 1,5 hours each.
